The powder room often has a small wall that can be given some character. A humorous poster isn’t the only option: a destination, a sports scene or a plant illustration might appeal to you too.
1Choose the tone of the room
For a quirky touch, compare the messages and scenes in the powder room selection. Read the text on the poster and make sure you like it before choosing. For a different mood, explore the city posters or the botanical illustrations.
The subject doesn’t need to match an assumed profile of your guests. Start from your own tastes and the colors already in the room, then compare a discreet option with a more expressive one.
2Consider viewing distance and foot traffic
Note the wall visible from the door and from the usual use of the room. Measure the free space around storage, switches and fixtures. Check that the door doesn’t hit the frame when it opens.
Test a template with the outer dimensions of the frame. An A4 may work, but it isn’t required: the right footprint depends on your wall and your viewing distance. A single poster may be enough; a duo means measuring the space between the frames too.
3Install it, without forgetting the practical details
Keep the paper and the frame away from splashes and cleaning products. Use a fixing suited to the surface and the weight of the whole. See the framing guide to check the dimensions of the print and the frame before mounting.
