What a colorful poster changes in a room
Where a black and white poster blends into almost any decor, a colorful poster stands out: it sets the tone of the room, not the other way around. Well chosen, it warms up a neutral interior or picks up colors already present in cushions, curtains or a rug.
The color families in the catalog
Brunelia’s colorful collection falls into a few main families. Mediterranean tones, the blue and white of Santorini’s facades or the ochre of Moroccan medinas. The vivid, naturalistic colors of entomology plates, butterflies or birds. The pastel and tangy shades of the French Riviera or Provence, lavender and lemon. And the more saturated neons of arcade rooms, bold pinks and purples.
Pairing a colorful poster with a neutral interior
In a living room with white or gray walls, a single colorful poster is often enough as a focal point: it becomes the subject of the wall, with no need to add color elsewhere. A thin frame, black or light wood, lets the poster speak without adding extra contrast.
Creating a gallery wall with several colors
To combine several colorful posters without overload, it’s best to limit the whole to 2 or 3 dominant colors rather than multiplying palettes. Keeping the same type of frame across the whole wall also helps unify posters with very different tones. A black and white poster slipped between 2 vivid ones acts as a visual breather, as detailed in our guide to black and white posters.
Where to hang them
A colorful poster finds its place in an entryway, a hallway or a living room that lacks character. In a room that is already very colorful, it’s better to choose a poster with tones close to those already there rather than a competing palette.
Valparaíso, another palette from the Pacific side
Far from the Mediterranean, the colorful houses of Valparaíso, Chile, clinging to the hillsides and linked by a funicular, show that a colorful wall can also draw on a South American palette rather than on Santorini’s facades or Moroccan medinas.
The vivid colors of Bollywood cinema
The Bollywood Dreams poster, with its turbaned hero in front of a pink domed palace, forms another color family, powder pink, coral and sky blue, the opposite of the naturalistic tones of the butterflies or birds already presented.
Shanghai at night, more urban colors
The pink reflections of the Oriental Pearl Tower in the river, under a lavender sky, create a 3rd mood, more urban and nocturnal than the arcade room neons already presented.
